SELVO Residual Current Circuit Breaker

SELVO presents range of RCCB for protecting human life against fatal electric shocks and fires caused by earth faults and leakage current . RCCB works on principle of kirchoff’s law , if there is any fault in circuit current flow from neutral wire is reduced , the difference between current flowing from live or phase wire and neutral wire is known as leakage current or residual current . on sensing residual current , RCCB is triggered to trip off the circuit . The rccb can sense leakage current , it can’t sense high current flow or short circuit current , so due to this reason MCB is used with an RCCB.

WORKING PRINCIPLE OF RESIDUAL CURRENT CIRCUIT BREAKER

RCCB works on the principle of kirchoff's law which states that current flowing to circuit from live wire must be same as that of flowing through neutral wire. The supply conductors are passed through a torroid and form primary windings of CT. Its secondary winding is connected to highly sensitive electromagnetic trip relay, which operates the trip mechanism. If there is any fault in circuit, current flow from neutral wire is reduced, the difference between the current flowing from live or phase wire and neutral wire due to fault is known as leakage current or residual current.

On sensing residual current, the RCCB is triggered to trip off the circuit. The RCCB can sense leakage current only, it can't sense the high current flow or short circuit current.

So due to this reason an MCB is used with an RCCB.
